There are more details about the children under Frank John Brooks.

Mae and Frank were separated or divorced around 1898.

Mae’s second husband, Austin, died after being scalded by a burst acid pipe at the sulphite mill of the Howard Paper Company where he worked in Menasha, Wisconsin.  Apparently he lingered for 3-4 days before passing.  Mae and the family of another that was injured in the accident sued the mill.  She did win a settlement of $2,500 in November of 1905.

Mary Mae Brooks appears in the Appleton city directories after Austin’s death in 1904 at 695 Harris and later, then in 1919 at 428 Hancock.  Later she lived as a widow at 321 Huron, Sheboygan, WI.

Grandma Brooks was at a Kings Daughters Home.  I need more details about this.  Kings Daughters had branches in Appleton, Kaukauna, and the Neenah/Menasha areas of Wisconsin.

Grand-daughter Ruth Ann Peake, daughter of son Thomas, shares this story, “I don't know if you knew or not, but my father and Aunt Helen were raised by Aunt Carrie and Uncle Clarence Ryan.  They never had children and Grandma Brooks had so many children to raise, and Aunt Helen was (as they said then) "sickly", so they sent the only boy and the little girl to live with their aunt and uncle in Troy, NY at a farm called "The Maples".  Daddy loved the life there, and I think they were spoiled.   Daddy and Aunt Helen always remained close.”
