Mary is noted in the burial record as being a widow, so her husband should have preceded her in death. However, he actually outlived her. I believe that many record keepers used the term widow when a woman had actually been divorced.

While in Appleton, Wisconsin, they lived at 583 Appleton Ave.

At the time Social Security numbers were issued, about 1936-37, Carroll was in Ohio. The Social Security Death Index places him in Knoxville , Tennessee when he died.
