Father’s name:          Jean Langlois                        of Jersey, England.

Mother’s name:         Sara (Maugier) Langlois      of Trinity Church, Jersey, England, b. about 1672.

English appears as Jane’s maiden name.  However, her parents were the Langlois.  I believe that she took the name English when she arrived in Massachusetts.  Another descendant of the of the Langlois/Maugier family has offered the this suggestion:

Anglois is old French for Anglais (English). Langlois and Langlais are surnames meaning "the English man". Both Langlois and Mauger(Maugier) are Channel Island and Norman names. They are also names of emigrants out of Larochelle where several of the Langlais and Maugiers may have been protestants. So Langlois seems to have re-arrived across the short sea a number of times.

So it is ironic that Jane, in possibly wanting to render her name more English sounding, just translated it: Jane English!”
