Another Dane/Brown family researcher, Gretchen Dane Burdick, makes reference to a letter dated June 8, 1773 from a Nathan Brown in Ipswich to several men in Yarmouth talking about a disagreement between his two sons Nathan and James.  She says that she has confirmed the Brown lineage using several sources as James 5, Nathan 4, John 3, John 2, John 1.

Nathan’s father, John Brown, was born July, 1678 and died May 6, 1759.  He was the son of John and Hannah Brown.  Mother Mary Fellows was born May 3, 1676 and died May 6, 1759.  She was the daughter of Joseph and Ruth (Fraile) Fellows.  John and Mary’s deaths on the same day is interesting, but I do not have an explanation.

Son Abraham Brown married Sarah Boardman January 10. 1780.  She is the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Boardman.  They had six children: John, unknown, Priscilla, Judith, Abraham, and Sarah.

Nathan’s brother Daniel married Hannah Russel on November 9, 1738.  Ipswich Vitals are quiet regarding any children.  However, a Daniel Brown, Jr. appears in the marriage records and marries Zerviah Dane on January 5, 1777.  They are both noted as being from Ipswich.  Children for this couple are:

Unice or Eunice Brown, bp. September 28, 1777

Alexander Brown, bp. March 19, 1780 and died April 25, 1780.

Israel Dane Brown, bp. March 11, 1781.

Jacob Brown, bp. March 16, 1783

Alexander Brown, bp. August 27, 1786.

I found many of the details regarding Nathan Brown and family at: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/b/r/u/Barbara-J-Bruce/PDFGENE6.pdf .  She has a well organized list of references and sources at the end of her document.   Well done.

Remainder of extended family info garnered from Ipswich Vitals, “Tan Book”.  The “Tan Book” of Ipswich Vitals lists Nathan’s last name as Browne, with the extra “e” on the end in earlier records such as his marriage, but drops the “e” later, such as when listing births of children.
