TTS 2008

Here we are at the 2008 Titletown Train show in Green Bay, WI.  These pics are from the setup day.  We have “Charlie!”, Chris (stealing garbage cans), Greg (allergy eyes), Jay, and Mike (wrestling with plugs).  Chris was featuring his own WRV (Wisconsin River Valley) equipment.

The SD-1701.  Enthralled with Star Trek, club member Mike Phalen imagineered a train locomotive combined with the Starship Enterprise and created this model.  Adults always gawk at it, but sadly, the next generation, the little kids, don’t know about Star Trek and get confused because they seem to know that it is a spaceship, but can’t seem to place it into their Star Wars mythology.  To which my response is, “Get a life!”  I asked my daughter to take a picture from a recent show and spiff it up a tad.  Here is her final product.

Only person I know that can be overwhelming and underwhelming at the same time.

Speed track laying        Todd actually wasn't feeling well that day.

The Spring Module

The following photos were of the module I scenicked.  It was nicknamed Spring.  The concept was a small, rural depot in the Village of Spring.  Behind the depot was a spring fed creek and pond. (That for reasons I don't understand I was not able to get a decent picture of.) There was a county road that made its way through a cut in the wooded hill and across the street was a mysterious factory, E. A. Ster's Hard Boiled Eggs.  Local farmers would deliver their fresh white eggs to the front door, then colored eggs would be shipped out the back.  Vats of dye and vinegar always seemed to be present.  When displayed, I would place a scale figure of Santa Clause waiting for the mail; Jar Jar Binks would be in the depot's crowd; and pod racers would pop out of the woods.  Hey, I did it for the little kids that the dads always dragged into the shows.  A modeling note about the wooded hill…I didn't want to model hundreds of trees and feared that if I did it wouldn't survive being transported from show to show.  So I only placed trees around the outer edge of the woods and the bulk of the forest canopy was window screen with foam glued to it supported by dowels.  I would store the canopy in an old computer keyboard box.  Worked very well and surprised more than a few people when I would pull it apart.

From the Titletown Train Show in Green Bay, Wisconsin, April 2005, where the club was setup at the National Railroad Museum.

It's 4:00 in the afternoon.  GOOD MORNING LEROY!

That's Mark working at the H.O.G. Yard and beloved Gus off to the side.

Some shots of various scenes...

Gus created a great walk-thru entrance...which other clubs are copying.  It deserves an MR article.
